Datacert Seminar to Tackle Globalization Challenges Faced by Today's Corporate Legal Department

Industry Experts from Datacert, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Meridian to Converge in New York to Discuss Globalization's Impact on Legal Operations Management

HOUSTON, Oct. 30, 2008 - As corporations continue to grow, their legal departments face new challenges related to practicing law and supporting operations in multiple countries. The push to expand operations on a global basis often brings new regulation and tax concerns not encountered by corporate counsel in the United States.

Datacert, Inc., the leading provider of legal operations management solutions, will host a seminar in New York on Nov. 17 that will focus on the common problems presented by globalization and how corporate legal departments can successfully overcome them. Industry leaders from Datacert, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Meridian will discuss such issues as security compliance, value-added tax (VAT) and cross-border issues.

Jeff Hodge, vice president and senior director of Datacert's European, Middle East and Asian Pacific operations, will kick off the half-day seminar with an exploration of the impact of globalization. With a range of dependencies that either inhibit or enable successful legal expansion, his presentation will discuss the technologies, processes and procedures required to transform into a globally focused operation.

Dealing with VAT and associated compliance issues is essential when operating a global business. Following Hodge's presentation, Melissa Brod from Meridian will share insight into EU legislation, electronic billing and the VAT recovery process in multiple global jurisdictions.

The seminar wraps up with a presentation by Matthias Penninck of PricewaterhouseCoopers on "Managing Electronic Invoicing and Archiving Projects in the EU." Penninck will examine the complex legal requirements surrounding VAT, EU regulations for cross border e-billing and the best practices for operating digitally in global jurisdictions.

The seminar will be held in New York on November 17 from 8 a.m. ET to 12:30 p.m. ET.
