Top legal departments provide insight into leveraging legal technology to achieve operational excellence
HOUSTON, Aug. 12, 2009 - Datacert, Inc., the leading global provider of legal operations management solutions, is sponsoring a free online seminar in partnership with Corporate Counsel magazine. This seminar, which is available on-demand at law.com, highlights best practices from Corporate Counsel's 4th annual Best Legal Department contest winner, The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., an insurance-based financial services company, and finalist, IBM (NYSE: IBM).
Datacert, which is proud to provide legal spend, IP, and matter management solutions to six of the seven Best Legal Department finalists from the last two years, presents this online seminar as an opportunity for corporate legal departments to learn from the successes of their peers. The winners of the contest were chosen based on demonstrated excellence in litigation strategies, outside counsel management, pro bono activities, and technological innovation.
Corporate Counsel selected The Hartford as their top pick for this year's award, partly in recognition of their success in quickly closing highly-complex deals. More importantly, The Hartford was honored for their use of legal technology to support their day-to-day legal operations, including proactively managing their outside counsel to ensure they receive the best mix of quality representation and cost, as well as utilizing systems for monitoring compliance.
IBM was recognized as a finalist for successfully reinventing their legal department to support the company's global expansion into 170 countries. IBM, which has been the leading holder of U.S. patents for 16 consecutive years, was also commended for its innovative use of technology, including IP e-billing, case tracking, and self-help resource systems, which help drive cost reductions and efficiency improvements.
In-house counsel and corporate legal and IP department managers and executives should attend this seminar to learn best practices for strategic legal and IP department management from their colleagues. Corporate Counsel Editor-in-Chief, Anthony Paonita, hosts this seminar, which features the following speakers from The Hartford and IBM:
- Amy Gallent, Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel and Chief of Staff, The Hartford
- Mary Scott, Assistant Director of Law Department Technology, The Hartford
- Alison Mortinger, Counsel, IP Strategy and Policy, IBM
