Global thought leadership series, featuring author Richard Susskind, to culminate in New York City
HOUSTON, August 24, 2010 – Datacert, Inc., the leading global provider of software and services for the legal industry, will gather some of the world’s foremost legal counsel
for the final installment of "Generals of the Revolution," a global event series designed to examine
fundamental shifts in the legal industry and identify necessary strategies for driving critical change in legal service delivery. The concluding event, which will feature a
keynote address from Professor Richard Susskind, author of The Future of Law and The End of
Lawyers?: Rethinking the Nature of Legal Services, and panelists from organizations such as AOL and
Qwest Communications, will take place on Wednesday, September 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the
Hilton New York, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, New York City, NY 10019.
"The practice of law is changing dramatically and, to ensure legal service delivery is efficient and effective, we must work together to bridge the widening
gaps between in-house counsel and law firms in the areas of collaboration, technology, and sourcing," said
Rich Baer, executive vice president, general counsel, and chief
administrative officer, Qwest Communications. "Those who are successful in meeting such challenges will do so by, among other strategies, leveraging advanced collaborative
technology. Datacert’s ‘Generals of the Revolution’ series provides the environment necessary for legal counsel to participate in a critical dialogue that will lead to
technology changes that positively transform the way in-house and outside counsel interact."
The event will include a panel discussion during which leading legal executives will offer insight concerning industry challenges identified at
previous seminars and the strategic changes that must be embraced and implemented to improve legal service delivery and process analysis and reduce costs.
D. Mark Poag, Datacert’s senior vice president and general counsel, will moderate the panel.
"Datacert has the responsibility to provide thought leadership to the legal marketplace because technology-driven innovation is the essential
component to moving the industry forward,” said Poag. “Many of my colleagues theorize the current trends, such as legal process outsourcing, were inevitable, but
note the economic downturn accelerated their adoption. As we move forward, technology will be the driving force that ensures legal service delivery is more
customized, efficient, and cost effective."
"Generals of the Revolution" events have been previously held in London, Houston and Palo Alto. Panelists for the series' culmination in New York City include:
- Richard Susskind, IT advisor to the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales and emeritus professor of law at Gresham College, London
